1. Institutional Genesis and Evolution

On April 16, 2021, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) formally announced the establishment of the National Unity Government (NUG) to oppose the military coup of February 1, 2021 and to restore democracy in accordance with the sovereign will of the people.

The National Unity Government derives its political legitimacy from the Federal Democracy Charter.

Subsequently, on May 5, 2021, the NUG founded the People's Defence Force (PDF) to systematically implement the People's Defensive War. Within this framework, the SR1 was institutionalized as a formal defense battalion under the direct jurisdiction of the PDF.

2. Command and Operational Framework

Special Regiment 1 (SR1) is a specialized unit operating under the direct command of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) of the National Unity Government and the People's Defence Force (PDF).

Established during the inception of the revolution, the regiment was initially composed of personnel who received military training from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). The regiment is currently engaged in strategic mobilization, military operations, and urban seizure missions across Upper Myanmar.

Special Regiment 1 operates in strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the Military Code of Conduct prescribed by the Ministry of Defence.

Furthermore, guided by the Four Oaths of the People's Defence Force, the regiment remains dedicated to the pursuit of a Federal Democratic Union.
